At Forward Thinking Communities, we believe education is more than something that happens inside a classroom. Education builds confidence, strengthens families, creates career opportunities, and gives people the tools to make informed decisions throughout their lives.
That belief is the foundation of Education 360, our community-centered approach to learning, mentorship, referrals, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Whether someone needs help earning a GED, preparing for college, understanding credit, starting a business, learning how to purchase a home, or finding a valuable community workshop, Forward Thinking Communities works to connect that person with the right opportunity.
Our goal is simple but powerful: advance life through education.
One of the most important parts of our educational work is bringing practical business knowledge directly into the classroom.
Through Business 101 programming at Alvernia University, Forward Thinking Communities introduces students to the foundations of entrepreneurship, nonprofit leadership, business development, community service, and responsible decision-making. These discussions are designed to help students understand that they are not limited to applying for existing opportunities—they can also create opportunities for themselves and others.
Students are encouraged to think like future entrepreneurs, nonprofit founders, professionals, and community leaders. They learn that building a successful organization requires more than a good idea. It requires planning, discipline, communication, financial awareness, ethical leadership, and a commitment to serving people.
By sharing real-world experiences and practical lessons, we help students see business as a tool for independence, innovation, and community improvement. We want every student to leave the classroom understanding that their ideas have value and that, with the right education and support, they can become tomorrow’s business owners and changemakers.
Not every person begins at the same place, and no single educational pathway is right for everyone.
Some individuals may need help completing their high school equivalency requirements. Others may be ready for college but need guidance understanding admissions, available programs, or their next steps. Some may want professional training, career development, or a new skill that can lead to employment.
Forward Thinking Communities helps individuals identify the pathway that best matches their needs and goals.
When someone needs GED preparation, we can help connect that person with organizations such as the Literacy Council or Reading Area Community College. When a student earns a high school diploma and wants to continue their education, we provide encouragement, referrals, and guidance toward college and other postsecondary opportunities.
We do not believe people should have to navigate these systems alone. Our role is to listen, understand what they are trying to accomplish, and help connect them with trusted educational resources that can move them forward.
Education does not end with a diploma or degree.
People also need practical knowledge that helps them manage their finances, strengthen their households, and prepare for long-term stability. That is why Forward Thinking Communities promotes and participates in local educational forums, workshops, and community events addressing topics such as:
These subjects can have an immediate effect on a person’s quality of life. Learning how credit works can help someone qualify for housing or financing. Understanding taxes can help families avoid costly mistakes. Homeownership education can turn a distant goal into a realistic plan. Business education can help an individual transform an idea into a source of income and community impact.
Forward Thinking Communities helps bring these learning opportunities closer to the people who can benefit from them most.
Knowledge is essential, but relationships and access are also important.
Through our community involvement, institutional relationships, classroom engagement, and networking efforts, we help individuals connect with educators, mentors, nonprofit leaders, business professionals, service providers, and potential employers.
These connections can provide guidance that is not always available through a textbook. A conversation with an experienced professional can help someone understand an industry, improve a résumé, prepare for an interview, recognize a business opportunity, or make a more informed educational decision.
Our work is not only about referring someone to a program. It is about helping people become part of a wider network of support and opportunity.
When one person advances through education, the benefits often extend far beyond that individual.
A student who learns about entrepreneurship may eventually create jobs. A parent who improves their financial knowledge can build greater stability for their family. An adult who earns a GED may qualify for college, career training, or better employment. A young person who receives guidance at the right moment may begin to see possibilities they had never considered before.
This is how education strengthens neighborhoods—one person, one family, and one opportunity at a time.
Forward Thinking Communities is committed to creating a culture in which learning is encouraged, resources are shared, and every person is reminded that it is never too late to take the next step.
